« I don't know this band « Les Tailleurs de Notes » (quarriers of notes). It is probably by mistake that Denis Tagu from InPolySons asked me to give a presentation of « Les Tailleurs de Notes ». But, it does not matter ; it is said these musicians do not know the music either... And thus they follow the long tradition of the Portsmouth Sinfonia Orchestra, which members where as famous as Brian Eno, Gavin Bryars, Michael Nyman or Steve Beresford. These « Tailleurs » remind also those self-taught musicians such like The Shaggs, an exentric girls band from Fremont, New Hampshire. One says that the local environment of « Les Tailleurs de Notes » consists of coal tips and mining villages in the north of France; places where popular musical societies, brass bands and harmony orchestras are very important. Except the « Tailleurs de Notes » brass band is a bit weird ; yes, there are all the expected wind instruments such as alto and baritone saxophones, euphonium and clarinet, but they are mixed with traditional rock instruments (bass and electric guitars, drums) and even a ukulele, funny little 4-string guitar originated from Hawai but that diffused all over the world. Anyway, I pretty like this name : it corresponds well to their music which is not manufactured in a factory or within a laboratory, even not in smart lounges. Better, these women and men construct all the notes by hand, using chisels and hammers of different kind, sometimes handsaws and billhooks; but always with very strong natural materials and garanty 100% with no errors. » Dominique Grimaud, 2011.
